Orpheon Foundation

Publié par Claudine Salomon   ·

We have just learned of the passing of Jose Vasquez, viol player and curator of the Orpheon Foundation instrument collection, from COVID.  He was an energetic and enthusiastic player, curator, and collector and will be missed.http://orpheon.org/home/biography-of-jose-vazquez/

I have lost YOU, my dear friend José Vázquez, an amazing noble man, whose smile, constant optimism and beautiful music brought joy and light into my life. I still can not believe it!!! Couple weeks ago we were joking and laughing on the phone together… Rest in peace José, you will forever be in my heart!

What a terrible loss! My only consolation is, that I is now discussing with those to whom he was a livelong humble servant: Marais St. Colombe, Forqueray, Abel, Schenck or Schaffrath, and of course: BACH.

Rest in peace, my friend, we already terribly miss you.

What a great friend who passed away! Met him a first time on a flight from Brussels to Barcelona in early 2000’s I believe. Met him last time in AUG2019 in Madrid, seen several concerts, had great moments with him. You will be missed, Jose! RIP my great Friend!

Such a sad and shocking posting. He gave so much to the music world. I will forever remember his wonderful playing and teaching at the Baroque Performance Institute/Oberlin where I had the honor to be coached and befriended by Jose. His humor and brilliant musicianship reached far and wide. « Still Alive » indeed, in many hearts.
